ABOUT THE ARTWORK

There is a correlation between the defenselessness of the Gulf species of "Lined Seahorses" which live their lives at the mercy and vagaries of their environment due to their lack of means to escape or fight predators, and the lives of black citizens of the US. In addition to the species name of the type of seahorse represented, the word "lined" is a slang word which connotes gang rape; a term which represents the repeated offenses against both of these groups of living beings.
