For a while I’ve been experimenting with simplified forms and scrapping the understood norms of perspective or realism and just revel in recreating a jumble of recognised forms such as houses, skyscrapers, parks and rivers and then to begin constructing my own version of a linoprinted city. The added benefit was that I could use up all the hundreds of off cuts of unused lino I’ve had lying around for years. Here is my first print of London, which I’ve built using individual blocks to make up a area of London which has been inspired by the section where St Paul’s cathedral can be seen from the south side of the Thames. Please be aware that I print by hand so there will be slight textural anomalies and smudges within the print, but these are a proud mark that what you’ll be receiving is a handmade printed piece and not a computer enhanced digital copy. Years of travel and living abroad are the reasons why Alison’s chosen subjects are so varied. Born in Brazil and nearly two decades living in Italy she sees the world full to the brim with fascinating subjects to portray. Having studied illustration and fashion design and then gaining a BA in Fine Arts, Alison has a wide experience of diverse art methods and styles. But it was a lucky chance encounter with a printmaker that she tried her hand at linocutting and finally knew she had found the perfect process for her and her style of work. Alison’s main priority when creating art is to reach a perfect balance of colour and composition whatever the subject matter. As long as it is pleasing to the eye she feels her work is done. Her linocuts have been exhibited in many group shows including at the Bankside Gallery, OXO Tower and the Royal Academy of Arts. Alison has also been featured in the respected Pressing Matters publication. You can also find her work at the Dorchester Hotel London.
