My work is about gardens. I love gardens with lush vegetation and bright light. I have been mostly painting gardens since more or less year 1996. The beginning years I loved gardens in Mediterranean Europe. I have been painting a lot in Italy, Southern France, Croatia and Slovenia. While in 2009 I first visited Asia and fell in love with lush tropical vegetation of South East Asia. I have been painting ever since in Singapore, Bali, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. My most loved places to paint are the Botanical Gardens in Singapore, Gardens of Thai King in Chiang mai, Northern Thailand, gardens in Bali and Kuala Lumpur for the diversity, order and the many colors. My work process is that I take pictures and make small paintings on site and then I love the quiet of my studio where I work on my big pieces. The places and atmospheres blend, they no longer belong to only one country. Painting this lush vegetation makes me feel alive. Color has always been the main theme of my paintings. The choice of PVC canvass and acrylic paint is there because this way I was able to keep the colors as bright and vivid as I wanted them to be. Late 2013-early 2014 was a turning point for me. That was, when I produced in a very short period of time, over only a few months, over 200 editions of limited and special edition prints. My art that has roots in Expressionism, in 2013 with the repetition started to have roots in Pop Art, too. I worked with color all my life. I am known as a colorist, but in late 2013- early 2014 I literally exploded with color. All my prints have one of my paintings as a source. I was reproducing the light of the places that I have been visiting. Each place is never the same as the light is changing throughout the day. Every day the sky is different at every single moment of the day. The sky and the sun are illuminating everything we see. I like exploring color in connection to what emotions it evokes. It is a path of discovery, joy and happiness that never ends. This is how these series of my limited edition prints came into being. All these prints are also published in the book: TJAŠA IRIS - GARDENS OF EDEN, 170 ASIAN LIMITED EDITION PRINTS A book of Tjasa Iris’s Asian prints. A limited edition of 35. From 2013/2014.
