About The Artwork

This artwork is made after a portrait photograph of a young calf Lulu back in 2014. The calf wore a flower crown and posed calmly until I got the shot, resembling an old milk cup design famous in ex-Yugoslavian countries in the '80s and '90s. This cup found a way to all of our homes somehow and nobody really knows how and when, everybody just has at least one sitting in their cupboards or remembers it from their childhood. I think Linolada was sold in those cups, something close to today's Nutella. The silkscreen execution was then inspired by Warhol's aesthetic regarding the color selection (and composition as well.) In total two different color versions were printed as original screenprints but they are also available as digital prints in many color variations. This version has no background color.

Lara Ješe is an artist living and working in Kranj, Slovenia. She holds an MFA in Painting and Fine Arts, acquired at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. She has also studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, expanding her knowledge in the fields of Graphic Printing. Growing up in the countryside near Kranj, Slovenia, she found her artistic interest in animals, particularly horses and cattle, which became a recurrent subject in her work. The motif allows her to explore the balance between portraiture and figure, in other words between psyche and the flesh, and to research the body within allegorical situations.
