A limited edition giclee print of a painting of the city of Sydney, Australia, skyline and Harbour. This was painted as a commission in 2017-18 in which I painted one of the scene of the view of Sydney harbour from Northern Sydney, one in daytime and one at nightime and then the paintings were used to create a series of giclee prints before being despatched. In this diurnal version, my main compositional preoccupation was to paint in a quasi-niave style emphasising sunny mood and vivid summer colours I experienced there. I used deep, rich ultramarine and phthalo blues to create feeling of tropical luxury for the large harbour sea in the foreground, then used various techniques to create the exciting impression of glass and steel for the complex contemporary city skyline and finally a complimentary but distinctive blue to the harbour to express and capture the vast open, warm Australian sky. Sydney Opera House is on the left and Sydney Harbour Bridge on the right. The prints are hand-signed in traditional pencil, printed onto high quality, Hahnemühle German Etching paper and presented unframed. Sizes are approximately the same as the original painting 50x70cm with an additional 2cm border area.

Michael Gutteridge was born in Manchester, Northern England, birthplace of the industrial revolution. I began painting professionally in 2001, when, after submitting a painting in an Open Exhibition at Stockport Art Gallery, I was invited by them to present a full exhibition of 20 paintings the following year. Since then, I've continued to develop and explore my own unique vision which mostly involves trying to capture exciting, vibrant, stimulating or moodful aspects of the urban landscape, especially of my home city of Manchester and its environs. Especially, just lately, at night. I was recently shortlisted as one of the finalists from 12,000 entries for the Aesthetica Creative Arts competition. My images have been used promotionally by the University of Lancaster, the University of Manchester, in pop videos, in magazines, on the covers of books and even made into postcards by the Manchester Tourist Office. They are exhibited regularly in the North of England, and are in private collections around the world.
