James Delaney is a South African artist working across multiple disciplines - printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture - from a large studio in Victoria Yards near downtown Johannesburg. He has won several awards including BASA and SAIA, work is in collections including Merrill Lynch Bank of America, the Constitutional Court of South Africa and the City of Johannesburg, and numerous private collections. A lot of his work references the remnants of history in the world around us - wildlife which once roamed urban areas, or the stories told by architecture and doorways. He has always travelled a lot, both in the wilderness spaces of Africa and the built up cities of the world, working every year in New York. More recently he has become known for his work restoring The Wilds, a 40 acre park in central Joburg which had been largely abandoned, and where he has installed 100 sculptures which show the wildlife which once lived in these hills.
