About The Artwork

Limited Edition Exclusive print in a beautiful frame. Print run is limited to just 50. They are printed on Leonardo canvas (Museum Quality) and come signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity. Can be supplied framed. I really liked the energy and emotion of this image. I build them up in a series of very thin layers - often smudging and blending with my fingers - so you will literally have my fingerprint on your painting. The painting is visible in my studio for months (I work on 3-5 at the same time) so I am constantly looking and reassessing. For me the key is to accentuate the interesting/significant parts and play down the less interesting bits. This brings a balance and focus to the work. I also like to leave bits out - the brain tends to naturally fill in gaps once it recognises what is going on - when you see a friend from a distance, you cannot see any detail but you recognise them. I think this keeps an image interesting as the viewer is challenged. I guess this is in contrast with realism. This painting took ages to produce but all along I tried to keep it looking quick, sketchy and spontaneous. Whilst painting there were lots of awful things going on in the world and I think this filtered into the piece. There was also an underlying feeling of hope and that good will prevail - I hope this comes across too.

Overview As you can see I specialise in capturing the female form - subtle, classical nudes in oil, charcoal, graphite and red chalk. Born in Henley, I spent most of my adult life in London, Hong Kong and Dublin. I am now happily settled in Windsor. I abandoned a career in publishing at the age of 40 to follow my lifelong passion - drawing and painting. I trained at a leading art college in London and was then taught by Michael Clark, who knew Francis Bacon very well (and incidentally the only person to draw him in the flesh). My work has been included in the books ‘Images of Women in Art’ and ‘Musings of Miss Yellow’. As well as being a stay-at-home Dad, I now paint from my Windsor studio and run my own life-drawing classes at the Windsor Art Centre. Testimonial “Patrick Palmer is a modern master of figurative art. His post-romantic nudes are not only exquisitely painted, but also dreamy, delicate and suggestive. They only hint at sensuality and evoke fantasy in the subtle and elegant manner that distinguishes art from pornography.” Claudia Moscovici, Co-founder of postromanticism.com and art critic (“Romanticism and Post-romanticism”, Lexington Books, 2007).
