About The Artwork

The marble stone is a recovered shard that remained from the quarry where it was split off from the mountain by way of drilling holes and the drill marks became integral with the unique design of the sculpture. The drill marks were deeply scarred and so the artist hand sanded and polished the surface to perfection. In sharp contrast there is an area of the sculpture where the original, natural surface texture remains. The sculpture is open for interpretation as the artist intended. As he carves the stone ideas come to him as his own personal meanings related to what was to be a very challenging time in the artists life that was in actuality yet to happen. For the sculptor/ Artist, those scars left from the impact of the drill that ultimately split the stone, had to be hand polished to perfection. To be torn apart is a loss of what was whole and what remains that is intact must endure and evolve to perfect on itself what is possible with the concentrated intension to heal wounds. Tremendous pain from loss splits a person apart and exposes what is inside and that is vulnerability. In retrospect, a very humbling and enlightening experience.

I live and work on a remote island of the Philippines known for its marble that I have exclusively carved in since 2015. "The sculptures I create are unique, organic objects of beauty that can be observed, contemplated and appreciated without having a reference to any pre-existing thing as there is no attempt to make stone look like anything other than stone."
