She is trying to encourage people to increase their self-esteem, and she is speaking from profound personal experiences, as she in her teenage years suffered tragic consequences from a serious car accident, where she not only had to fight for her life but as she says ‘I had my beauty stolen and since I have had to fight for both beauty and self-esteem’. Her early works show the process of her extreme struggle to get her self back together again. Still today Desdemona takes inspiration from her personal struggle to re-embrace every single millimeter of herself, and as she expresses it ‘Still today there is a pain, but I have learned to “enjoy the silence”, however, I make sure it comes out in my work . ‘I have a desperate need to find beauty, whatever that means’ – Desdemona Varon LABIRINTINTINTIMI / INSIDE OF ME (1994 - 2011) is her first work, and it takes the audience on a journey through pain. encompassing three elements: - 17 years of photography “autoerotism” to “bleach “ the torment - 17 years of self-portraits ….
