Sculpture, Steel on Steel
Size: 16 W x 16 H x 4 D in
Ships in a Crate
For sale is a recently completed abstract metal art piece. Materials used include 18 gauge sheet metal with stained glass jewel, twine, ball bearings, washer and expanded steel as accents. The piece was rusted using hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt mix. Following rust process the entire piece was painted with satin clear coat. Accent down the middle was achieved with short bursts using a MIG welder. Splitty’s Handcrafts focuses on creating abstract metal art and a variety of indoor and outdoor decor items that are proudly original and handmade. With this piece I have strived to create art that will add to your home or office decor and make a unique conversation piece. My goal is to create sculpture that is unique; that no one has done before and try hard to resist conformity and mass production. Hello metal art lovers. Splitty’s Handcrafts is the place to find creative, unique metal art. We are always interested in undertaking custom work . Contact us. My name is Ron Wight. I am new to Saatchi Art and somewhat new to what has become my passion - metal art. It is a passion I wish I had found earlier in life (I’m 73 years of age). Nevertheless it is a passion that I’m blessed to have found. In the spring of 2019 I took a MIG welding course while wintering in Arizona. The impetus to take the course was the desire to gain some of the skill needed to repair some small rust issues on my 65 Mustang. Needless to say I haven’t gotten around to fixing the Mustang as my interest in metal art grew and continues to grow. I started out making home and yard decor from discarded car parts, horseshoes, vintage blow torches, sheet metal and rebar. As my art evolved I began to concentrate on abstract metal art pieces. After some sales on local online sites and through my Etsy store I thought it was time to name my art business. I am lucky enough to own a 1962 VW Single Cab Truck. These trucks were made from 1952 to 1967. Because of the split front windows the nickname “Splitty” became popular. My art business name, “Splitty’s Handcrafts” reflects my passion for these early VWs. Splitty’s Handcrafts continues to focus on creating abstract metal art and variety of indoor and outdoor decor items that are proudly locally made. I strive to create art that makes a unique conversation piece and is suitable for display or use in your home, office, den, shop or man cave. My goal is to create sculpture that is unique; that no one has done before. I try hard to resist conformity and mass production.
