Originally of the "Duality" series with the strong interplay between the solid mass and the open, shell-like form—upon completion the title: "Emerging From Nothingness No.1" was chosen.

This piece of western red cedar has a particularly rich tone to it. Waxed, the deepness of the tone is embellished and the chocolate-amber emerges with full intensity.

The ovaloidal form may adopt an ontological meaning as the viewer relates to its essentiality. The delicately open shell then speaks words of silence and enfolds negated ideas as it stands in inextricable union with Being.

-------------------------------------------------------------

*Special attention must be made when handling this delicate piece. The thin-walled part of the sculpture can split if it is squeezed or pressed. Avoid applying any extra pressure on this area when handling.

It is signed with the year on the bottom with a pyrography tool.

Mike Sasaki was born in Toronto, Canada. He graduated from the Bachelor of Design Honours program at York University / Sheridan College in 2005. He lived in Tokyo, Japan for 5 years where he was immersed in traditional and modern Japanese culture. The martial arts philosophies have played an important role in his artistic development.
