The graceful elegance of a wild animal in its natural environment, interacting interdependently with the trees, the plants, the earth and insects; the rich, resonating, growing siren of the approaching fire engine; the silent, predawn stillness with its dissipating fog and dew – human experience tends to be painted by what we have learned. But certainly this is not the only factor. There is the abiding feeling of peace overshadowed by stress and desire, the beauty of creation creating, growing, adapting, ceaselessly moving, struggling, coasting, pushing, pulling, butting, fighting, clashing, breaking, splitting, boiling, frying, laughing. There is the problem and the solution, the process and the completion, the continuity of life.

Our perception may be coloured by our pasts but our ceaseless interconnectedness to each other, nature, the cosmos has a driving quality inside of a presence, an awareness, a movement. How much love, laughter, beauty and joy occurs in such a relationship? In the timeless ground of being, with all its commotion and order, how much eternal splendour is accessible? If motion and relationship are two indivisible cores of existence – winding and entangling in growth and interaction – then the limited perception fueled by thousands of yesterdays cannot filter the vastness.

"The wood forms are a consummation of my passions for drawing, sculpting and metaphysical pursuits." As a child I would take to drawing whatever interested me, be it hockey goalies in action, mammal anatomy, or comics. These long hours of drawing lead to making art a focus of my formal education. After graduating from the Bachelor of Design Honours program at York University / Sheridan College in 2005 (where I regularly incorporated hand-drawn material into the designs), I lived in Tokyo for 5 years where I was immersed in traditional and modern Japanese culture. Studying martial arts helped to strengthen my already growing interest in philosophy and metaphysics. In my search for a hands-on approach to life and work, sculpting in wood came like an epiphany. The forms are a consummation of my passions for drawing, sculpting and metaphysical pursuits. I am currently living and working in Metro Vancouver where besides the sculptures, I am also developing a body of painting and relief wall artwork.
