I stop and close my eyes, feeling the dampness all around me, the birds are singing their natural tunes and the darkness is a pathway inwards towards the infinitesimal point without a center. Eyes open, the light enters with all the splendid colours, in a richness deeper than any picture, the unceasing movement, the sparkling droplets of due sitting motionless on a leaf, all the sounds, the shadows and the rising sun—united within and without. The thunderous thought Rages in taking me aback, The cosmos crunches through time In massive relationships of Solid concentrations So much space between the parts, And so much energy to drive— The ultimate paradox is always here I breathe eternity with every breath And with its release, I fall back into weightless suspension And vast silence ~MS2020 The Opening of Space No.1 inspired by deeply abstract ruminations is carved from Port Orford Cedar. The soft contrast of the grain lines ranges in colour from light cream to rosey white. The inner bark preserved in a solitary patch decorates the front of the piece with its own intrinsic nature. Inspired by essential proportions and forms from nature, the piece contains movement in stillness, an inner glance at abounding space and deep presence.
