Apple Abs - 5 - Sea Urchin Sculpture

This was an evolution from the Abs-1 work. Exploring both the use of negative space, but also the complex curves and shapes which can be formed by intersecting and subtracting simple shapes. The goal was, again, to explore how to use 3D printing software to create virtual shapes then bring them to the real world, but in a form more pleasing than plastic, and using the flexibility available with clay. The pieces have been decorated with Mayo Cobblestone glaze overlaid on an underglaze to create an interesting tactile sensation. This version immediately conjours up thoughts of sea urchins and deep sea creatures.
