Asheville VII Sculpture

David Sheldon’s "Asheville' series of sculpture is inspired by David Smith's "Voltri' sculpture series created during a 30 day stay in Spoleto, Italy. As an art student at RISD, Sheldon was accepted into the European Honors Program and lived briefly with an Italian family in magical Spoleto, where he got to visit, first hand, the places Smith had worked. Sheldon has always been attracted to the concept of 'pure creation' - discarding sentimentality and subjectivity, and just letting the abstract forms, as they relate to each other in three-dimensional space, inspire and motivate the process....
