About the Artist

Lisa Holzl

Australia

I am an Australian artist with an Austrian heritage and a background in design and painting. My addiction to clay began fifteen years ago when ceramics became my preferred three-dimensional canvas. I love exploring colour, pattern, line, organic forms and painterly, ceramic surfaces. I draw inspiration from botany and biology to explore connections between the body, nature and architecture.
My totemic forms and installations, are often commissioned to suit specific sites and contexts, both indoor and outdoor. I'm fascinated with the way totems continue to exist throughout time, as symbols of place, belonging and identity.

Working out of an old bakery in Sydney’s Innerwest she calls Bakehouse Studio Marrickville, Hölzl shares this inspiring space with her local community by offering ceramic workshops and weekly Open Studios.

Her work can be found in regional sculpture shows such as Sculptures in the Garden, Mudgee as well as exhibitions and galleries at Winmark Wines Gallery and Sculpture Park, Broke; The Sydney Ceramic Market, Carriageworks, Sydney and Gallery LNL, Newtown, Sydney.
