Sculpture, Found Objects on Plastic
Size: 10.2 W x 10.8 H x 0 D in
Ships in a Box
This figurative sculpture has been created from one whole 12" vinyl music record (The Merrymen ft. Emile Straker, 'Caribbean Treasure Chest'), and mounted upon a 12 x 12 x 3cm clear acrylic base with unpolished edges. The female figure is elevated in space by 3 clear perspex rods. The liquid-like form has been created using various heat sources, with the modern materials maintaining a fine art aesthetic. The sculptures are caught in states of movement, dance and musing. Function becomes form.

Sculptures created from whole vinyl music records... nothing added and nothing removed from the original material. The abstract, figurative forms are organic in their conception, with the vinyl having a life of its own upon heating. I pair the final sculptures with modern, geometric materials such as perspex and acrylic - the hard solids contrasting with the solidified, liquid lava appearance of the vinyl. The figures recline, dance and become caught in a movement that was previously evoked from the playing of the records themselves.
