Hand cast wall hangings. Start the conversation with this unique wall sculpture that celebrates Cupid & Love. Did you know that Cupid carried two kinds of arrows, one with a sharp golden point, and the other with a blunt tip of lead. A person wounded by the golden arrow is filled with uncontrollable desire, but the one struck by the lead feels aversion and desires only to flee? The use of these arrows is described by the Latin poet Ovid in the first book of his Metamorphoses. When Apollo taunts Cupid as the lesser archer, Cupid shoots him with the golden arrow, but strikes the object of his desire, the nymph Daphne, with the lead. Trapped by Apollo’s unwanted advances, Daphne prays to her father, the river god Peneus, who turns her into a laurel, the tree sacred to Apollo. It is the first of several unsuccessful or tragic love affairs for Apollo. I myself have been wounded a few times by Cupid. Luckily, when Cupid took careful aim and hit me the final time I fell in Love with my wonderful wife, Margaret. Thank you Cupid. Hand cast in Architectural Hydrocal & Fiberglass composite. Individually colored.

Bobby Kolar is an exciting artist on the American art scene. While clearly a master of timeless artistic traditions, Bobby expresses a fresh new vitality in his work. Bobby’s mastery of classical sculptural techniques makes it possible for him to create each of these fascinating pieces. He first sculpts his images in clay. Once satisfied with his execution of the subject, he creates a mold or reverse image of the original work of art. By filling this mold with an architectural composite he is able to recreate the original once more. Each casting is then individually hand colored. Unlike other art forms which remain static, Bobby’s sculptures respond to the play of light and shadow which occurs naturally throughout the day, creating ever changing and fascinating effects. His understanding of structure and space combined with his startling insight, result in a piece which elicits both intellectual attention and emotional response. Whether a serious artistic study or a whimsical trip into fantasy, to own the artwork of Bobby Kolar is to join him in a celebration of life! Originally from Seattle, Bobby continues working as a commercial artist and entrepreneur residing in Boulder City, Nevada.
