About The Artwork

Our designs are influenced by diving in the shallow clear waters of Florida and the Caribbean and kayaking the lakes, rivers and tidal inlets across America and beyond. Combined with their dance-instructing careers, many of our designs and compositions, particularly those involving the *latticino* technique, are reminiscent in feeling of underwater coral reefs and the rhythm of the dance. The base is solid hardwood painted in black satin finish. Each glass element is removable for easy cleaning and shipment. Base dimensions 8" W 8" D 2" H

Our designs are influenced by scuba diving in the shallow clear waters of Florida and Caribbean we combine the glass blown technique called “latachino” implemented by many Masters and artisans in Italy, which involves stretching fine lines of color glass and applying it to the molten glass to create a composition that looks like twisted cane! Many of our designs and compositions, particularly those involving floral motifs, are reminiscent in feeling of the Art Nouveau pieces created in the Arts and Crafts Movement of the late 19th Century, yet with a cleaner, more contemporary approach. Warner Whitfield began working in glass in 1972 and apprenticed with master glass artist Fritz Bachman from Hamburg, Germany and established the glass studio in 1976. Beatriz Kelemen began working in glass in 1984 in Venezuela under her father’s Frank Kelemen tutoring, well known for his work in stained glass. She has a bachelors degree in Architecture an a Masters in Project Management from Cal Poly University, CA. Whitfield and Kelemens work are shown in many galleries and had won numerous awards at juried exhibitions throughout the United States. Some collectors and commissions include: Pittsburg Plate Glass, United Technologies, Japanese Embassy, Martha Stewart, Stephen King, Whoopi Goldberg, Arnold Schwarzenegger, King of Jordan and Premier of Newfoundland Danny Williams, also featured in Better homes and gardens magazine Hand Made in the USA
