About The Artwork

This work belongs to the serie Colombian birds. This was a stage in my life when I decided to change the technique of modeling in clay and casting in bronze to use assembled metal sheets. This happened because working with bronze I burned my left arm and had to undergo seven surgeries. When I came back from the clinic after a month, I was totally traumatized and did not want to work with hot wax again. I lived on the outskirts of Bogota in a cabin near a river and every morning birds of different colors came to my terrace. I was very depressed because of my situation, because art is my passion and I did not feel able to return to that technique. For months I was observing the beautiful and colorful birds that came to my terrace. One day the light bulb of inspiration came on and I began to draw them with all their beautiful colors. I felt that what attracted me most about these birds was their lightness and that's when I created my series Colombian birds. They were small birds on painted steel sheets. Then over time... my perception turned more towards denouncing the deforestation of Colombia's forests, the extinction of their nests and their final death, instead of their elegant and colorful flight. So I decided to change the format, make them big and heavy like robot birds in a metallic world that only appreciates technology. ilizar lami

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I was born in Bogota but spent my childhood and adolescence in Spain where I studied Journalism at the University of Navarra. I discovered my vocation as an artist at the age of 17 in a ceramics class at the school in Michigan where I did Senior High School, however I studied and dedicated myself to art with some intervals since I was 28 years old. This journey through several continents made me a person materially uprooted but fully rooted in my soul. Rebel by nature, I always go to the essence of things and people around me in search of their light, however I love solitude and that is where I am inspired to create my sculptures.
