Playful geometric shapes, intricate marbled design and tactile encaustic wax combine for a truly unique piece of art. This 3dimensional mixed media wall sculpture is at once architectural and soft, graphic and subtle, colorful and raw, dynamic and sculptural, geometric and playful. The multi-colored paper surface was individually hand-marbled by the artist. The patterns are the result of paint floated and manipulated on the surface of water, and then transferred, one-time like a monoprint, to another surface. A semi-circle is raised 1/4" and casts a soft shadow across the vibrant pink color field on a birch plywood substrate. The piece is finished under a layer of encaustic wax. Encaustic art involves fusing heated beeswax and damar resin on the surface of the substrate. The results are a soft, barely opaque, molten surface full of nuance and character that catches the light. Care for an encaustic painting as you would any fine art painting. Signed on the back, and ready to hang on a metal french cleat hanger, or can be framed by the collector.

“It is said that all life on earth is created from the matter of long-dead stars. Through my art, I'm interested in making quiet moments that represent some of the bold creative forces behind our natural world. The shapes and patterns I see in my environment — such as mushrooms and mountains, crystals and clouds, feathers and forests, wood grain and cosmos — provide me with a constant source of inspiration. Ultimately, I’m interested in creating a graphic language of hard edge and geometric abstraction that offers up a space for multiple interpretations while also revealing a common visual connection between such diverse subject matter." – Artist Statement Jamie Gray’s practice is currently established in Denver Colorado. She has exhibited work in the United Kingdom and United States, has been featured in international publications, and has sold to collectors in Australia, England, Europe and all across the US. Gray studied painting, photography, and textile design, ultimately receiving both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in graphic design. This academic background and professional practice in design deeply underpins her aesthetic choices and creative processes. Gray's work had been described as both "geometric and primordial" and incorporates hard edge abstraction, nuanced textures and traditional craft-based techniques (such as marbling, encaustic wax, woodworking, and gilding). Her abstracted graphic language and pleasing color palette is often inspired by nature and the places she has lived including the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, the desert Southwest, and Great Plains of the Midwest.
