About The Artwork
Inspired by biological structures, such as the silica exoskeletons of microorganisms, this project centers on unicellular algae known as Diatoms. These entities boast a natural architecture reminiscent of a Voronoi pattern, a design frequently employed in generative design methodologies. Remarkably, Diatoms are pivotal in global oxygen production, contributing to approximately 20-50% of the oxygen we inhale. They sequester atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), converting it into organic compounds like sugars, and in the process, release oxygen (O2). Production Technique: The sculpture was crafted through fused deposition modeling (FDM), an additive manufacturing technique, utilizing bioplastic derived from cornstarch. This piece explores the aesthetic parallels between organic formations and human-engineered artistry.
