About The Artwork

The sculpture depicts a strong-willed semi-mythical woman, the founder of Carthage. According to the ancient poet Virgil, Dido committed suicide by self-immolation because Aeneas betrayed and left her, though she was good at giving him everything she had. The composition shows in a somewhat playful manner the anguish of Dido in the flames that engulfed her. The author interprets the famous scene and adds his constructive contemporary solution. The work is carved of walnut wood. The stand is made of pine wood. The head of the sculpture is crowned with a crown [like fire] of copper. Epoxy resin was also used.
