No time for a safari? Maybe you just love the raw beauty of the wild places in this world. This could be a great piece for you. Imagine this mighty beast in your safari inspired space. This warthog, made from driftwood and other materials from nature, is frozen in an action packed moment that conjures images of fight or flight in the wilds of Africa. This piece is assembled from a variety of natural, organic materials found in the forests and riverbanks of Ontario and Quebec, Canada. It is an assemblage sculpture, using various pieces of driftwood built off the main piece which runs from head to tail. The hair mane and tufts are made from pine needles and cotton fibres. The hooves, teeth, and the focal point of this piece, the tusks, are all made from a variety of cow bone parts. As always with my sculptures, I incorporate a stone mineral, usually for the eyes. For the warthog, I made his eyes using black onyx stones. Prior to assembly, all materials go through a cleaning and heat treatment process. Once assembled, the sculpture has some stain applied for color matching, and is finished with a sealant. The natural creations of our environment are all the inspiration I need, and it brings me pleasure to re-create with the bounties it provides. As with all my art from the animal kingdom, I hope to take your mind from the concrete jungle, into the real jungle.
