Sculpture, Bronze on Bronze
Size: 19 W x 26 H x 16 D in
Ships in a Crate
During the summer months when the rivers and streams run dry, elephants resort to digging holes in the river sand to reach the water below. Sometimes they have to dig quite far down, scooping it out with their trunks. In order to reach the water, they put themselves into some extraordinary and amusing positions. I wanted to capture the essence of this in sculpture. To view other images of this piece from different angles, you will have to go to my website at www.maberlyart.com. Whilst the sculpture is very stable and evenly weighted, the trunk hangs 12 inches over the side of the plinth, so this should be taken into consideration. It is without doubt a great conversation piece. No. 4 in an edition of 8 There is a lead time of 6 weeks for delivery.

James Maberly is an artist (sculpture and drawing) and an author. Born in Kenya and brought up in Zimbabwe (both in Africa), he lived an idyllic early life on a farm, surrounded by animals. After school, he studied art at both Ipswich and Norwich Schools of Art, specialising in sculpture and drawing, attaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. This led to four happy years as an art lecturer at Suffolk College teaching sculpture, drawing and 3D drawing. He continues to produce drawings and sculpture and also now teaches drawing from his studio. He has always had a great affinity with the animals around him, whether wild or domestic. He has done a number of sculptures of elephants as they have always held a particular fascination for him. He is known for his ability to capture a sense of movement in both his drawings and sculptures. His website can be found at www.maberlyart.com.
