VIEW IN MY ROOM
So often we aren’t allowed to touch art and ceramics in particular. These flora pieces beg to be touched. You’re invited to play and interact to create your own unique arrangement. The possibilities are infinite! The soothing sound is reminiscent of sea shells. A meditation and presence begins when you start to interact with them.

Even though I’ve been working with clay for over 15 years, it still harkens back to being in kindergarten. Frederick Froebel’s premise as the creator of the concept of kindergarten is that free activity and the impulse to explore is motivated by intellectual curiosity. Having the opportunity to be free to discover and explore this curiosity is truly a gift. I extend this activity of play, onto the viewer, with the invitation to touch and hear the sounds of interacting with the work. Clay, as a medium, allows me to feel completely untethered and yet fully engaged. It’s qualities are forgiving with endless possibilities. My intuition emerges as I discover new forms, lines and textures. I am also intrigued by the strength of multiples: separate pieces are united to create a cohesive new individual form. The abstract expression and formal qualities of my sculptures work together to evoke a personal feeling and unique connection with the engaged viewer.
