About The Artwork
Overlapping disconnections in society, in ourselves, and ‘cubism in the round’ inspired Fractured Spiral. This static stainless steel sculpture, like one’s own perspective, hides an additional truth. Facing front, Dan Haynie’s segmented triangular tubes appear almost two dimensional - like blade marks on an icerink’s surface left by a skilled athletic performer. Fractured Spiral appears to have minimal physical depth. Welded in place, much like our perspective of ourselves, purpose in life, and attitudes toward others, Fractured Spiral calls each person to take action and move. The importance of shifting one’s perspective to see additional beauty is only revealed as people move, encircling the entire sculpture.

I was born and raised in the panhandle of west Texas ( the Llano Estacado) where I now live. I started making welded metal sculpture after taking a welding course. Making sculpture was a hobby until I began to consign my work for sale in galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I exhibit at SHIDONI Gallery outside Santa Fe, I have exhibited there for twenty years.
