ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Many modern people are conscious of how other people think of them, so they disguise themselves using various masks. We often find people more worried about ‘how I look’ rather than ‘who I am'. They decorate themselves in order not to lag behind in the overheated competition of society and disguise their appearance and personality to suit the taste of others in order to not be overshadowed by fashion trends. SNS is the slot where these disguised masks pour out. SNS, which has become a culture in society, plays a prominent role in revealing people whenever and wherever. People are conscious of how others think in this space, decorating themselves and hiding their true self. On the other hand, they sometimes take off their mask and reveal their real self due to the indirect nature of it. This work shows the divergence between these realities and SNS in the form of Selfies. Selfies are a ‘new form of camouflage’ revealed through SNS. The human desire for self acknowledgment is revealed through Selfies as they are spread by SNS. Using this, this work shows modern people who are confused about what is real and what is fake.

My name is Young-hun Jang. I am an artist who is sculpting and painting in Korea. I am sculpting about forgetting things because of getting used to. I work in the form of satire. And I am color weakness. That's why I usually use black and white color.Below is my artist Statement. There are things that are taken for granted in daily life. Sometimes we don't even notice them because we see and experience them every day: family, friends, material possessions, health, food, and more. In the midst of change, we may finally come to realize those taken for granted things around us. This piece reconstruct that moment of an artist when he realizes all the day to day blessings through life changes.
