About The Artwork

Horizon is a site-specific sculpture that celebrates its surrounding environment. Exploring the use of water as a sculptural material, Horizon temporarily transforms the viewer’s experience of each site, where a lens effect turns views upside down. Originally designed for a coastal clifftop site at Sculpture by the Sea in Australia, the sculpture was conceived as a monument to the coastal landscape and the constant line of the horizon. Horizon has shown to be a deeply engaging work for audiences by offering a dynamic, emotive and constantly changing experience. This ephemeral artwork engages the body and senses, capturing the unique light, atmosphere and colour of each day. The work is inspired by the practice of land art, and seeks to engage the viewer to become aware of their surroundings, and form a deeper connection with the natural world. The work comprises an engineered acrylic sphere filled with over 1500 litres of water, on a hand finished concrete base plinth.
