Icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness" Sculpture

The presented icon is a continuation of my work in the series "Carved Wood and Glass Icons" The icon I presented is made of walnut, the face is made of pear, the background is made of stained glass. In Christianity, among the Orthodox, several main types of shrines are venerated, depicting the appearance of the Blessed Virgin and one of such shrines is the icon of the Mother of God “Tenderness”. It belongs to the main Russian type of icon painting, the so-called Eleusa, where the Son of God sits in the hands of Mother and gives her a cheek. Therefore, on the icon of “Tenderness,” the Virgin, as a rule, appears in this type, sealed to the waist, with the Baby on whom she looks tenderly, with tenderness.
