Art Description

Sculpture: Stone on Stone.

“Involution”

The dictionary defines involution as: a mathematical function that is equal to its inverse.
“Artists create with periods of artistic involution!” In other words, we have to take time to be inspired and then use our artistic (or creative Mind) to create in thought what will eventually manifest as form. This form that finally evolves is the “evolution” of thought….So here’s the conundrum…..
My original concept for this sculpture was something that would be round and flowing. As I worked on the stone several ideas evolved and the final direction of my thoughts created a swirling involuted design. This completed work illustrates involution. Yet, the completed work is really the evolution of my thoughts! Hmmm…what would you name it?
