This wood sculpture was inspired by the Irish Wood Carver Glenn Lucas. She saw these long beautiful wood spiral shavings fall from the bowl to the floor. From that exact moment, the “Lost and Found” series began. Creating these sculptures is very time consuming. In each sculpture she incorporates Lucas' natural wood shavings that have fallen to the floor and have been “LOST” or discarded. She “FOUND” them and gave them the purpose of creating something beautiful. When she can, she tries to use recycled wood for the backing. These sculptures are so unique and definitely a conversation starter. They are full of texture and details. The soft curves of the hand curled wooden reeds are so aesthetically pleasing to look at. She hopes when you look at the sculpture you will feel energized, full of life, and full of wonder. This piece is ready to hang and can be hung either vertically or horizontally, and will add a "wow" factor to any room. It is sprayed with a UV protective spray but not recommended to be hung in direct sunlight. Karmin will also work with you to create a custom piece, color, size, and shape.

Karmin Schafer Hansen has been a professional artist since 1995. She lives in New York, USA. She was educated as a painter but recently her direction has changed into creating beautiful, energetic, wood sculptures bursting with color. They are called the “LOST and FOUND” series. This series of wood sculptures was inspired by the internationally known Master Wood Carver Glenn Lucas from Ireland. While watching him on TV carve a bowl on his lathe, she saw these long beautiful wood spiral shavings fall from the bowl to the floor; and so; the “Lost and Found” series began. Karmin hand curls each spiral one by one that you see in her sculptures and hand builds her sculptures one spiral at a time. Karmin’s desire is to continue creating her LOST and FOUND sculptures on a bigger scale and one day she hopes to create a huge outdoor LOST and FOUND sculpture made of metal. She has an amazingly supportive husband from Denmark who she calls her "art assistant" and two beautiful teenage daughters who are known as her “art show groupies”. I am a passionate artist who loves to create; it is in every fiber of my being. I feel it's my gift from God and I intend on using it to the fullest.
