About The Artwork

At the presented exhibition the form of Lapidarium meets the form of Meditatio, where the latter becomes the teacher of stillness. Reflecting on the topic of Meditatio I focused on the form of faces and feet. One can say that these are two extremes of the human body: a face, which we show to others and feet, which we usually hide in shoes. A face is the most expressive part of the human body and through meditations it can get very transformed, pacified. A peaceful face acts like a magnet. It seems that the mere contemplation of such a face can put us in the state of meditation. Whereas feet... in this context (the context of meditation) are to me the best description of stillness. Feet may occur in different systems, groups, colors but they do have one thing in common - the stillness. In Meditation, of course the whole body (through the word) is immersed in stillness but in case of feet this stillness is more overwhelming as, on daily basis, feet are "the most hectic." When they can finally rest, they become as if transformed and inactive. Yes, for me feet are a symbol of meditation. What’s more, they are also a symbol of meditation in movement, when we walk in a mindful way, paying attention to our steps. Touching the Earth in this way, we become closer to Heaven. Persevering in meditation through a word, we open ourselves to the Word. The third cycle - Manuscripts, which I call "written sculptures", is like a buckle connecting the two previous ones. The first cycle talking about the body and the second one talking about the body and the word that are united in the spirit, come together as one in the space where the word becomes flesh and the flesh becomes the word. The sculptural surfaces of Manuscripts - torsos, hands and faces - are full of words. We can read them like a book in the original languages of Aramaic and Greek, but also in Latin and Polish. The emerging content consists of passages from the Bible that refer to the creation of man and that praise this Creation.

I am a sculptor and a museum curator. I specialize in large ceramic sculptures, being mainly inspired by the form of a human body. In my art, I try to combine the old with the new. One of my exhibitions is called "Lapidarium". The exhibition is the result of my interest in damaged ancient sculpture. This collection of broken pieces and sculptures becomes a place of fulfilled whole. The same is true for human life composed of seemingly random events. They may seem random at first but then, we actually notice that they make up a whole story of our lives that we create. Apart from making sculpture, I also paint icons and panels that refer to the illuminations of medieval manuscripts largely based on sacred geometry. My passion for art has always been accompanied by my interest in spirituality. In 1998 I began to study the writings of the fathers of the desert. I was particularly interested in texts indicating the heart as the most important organ in the human body. These readings introduced me to the path of meditation which meant leaving the mind and entering the heart space. Since then I have been practicing and teaching this form of meditation combining it with the practice of mindfulness. In the following years under the influence of Greg Braden and Matthew Fox’s books I became interested in the combination of science, spirituality and faith. Starting with the theory that everything that exists, is a part of one God. Thus, it means that everything must be connected in some way, to be able to create one whole. I have been looking for answers how this combination is revealed and what opportunities it gives us. I found my answers in the Bible, the teachings of bhakti-yoga and in quantum physics, which is just seemingly distant from the first two.
