About The Artwork

After returning from Santa Fe, NM this summer, I decided that it was time to revisit some of the classics that have been my inspiration for many years. The pattern in this vessel is one of my favorites, shown throughout the works of the late Ray Allen. I have revisited Ray Allen's work frequently over the years, it has been an inspiration for me with respect to his incredible craftsmanship, but also his deep connection to the southwest that I share as well. I always try to repeat the key features as exactly as possible, to not take away any of its originality Ray Allen's work is known for. The vessel was made from several exotic and domestic woods (Aniegre, Curly Maple, Gaboon Ebony, Padauk, Katalox), I added turquoise (stabilized) for parts of the patterns. Similar to some of my other pieces, the relationship to decorative pottery is obvious. I hope you will appreciate this truly classical design, and its connection to the American Southwest.
