About The Artwork

This Origami boat sculpture makes part of the series toys and origami foldings. It is inspired on the observance of children in the act of playing and the sensation of pure completeness and happyness they transpire while doing so. With this sculpture I am treating the deeper meaning of life with the understanding of the fact, that the jou lies in little things, a paper folding Origami boat you can pull, push or let it swim. In this magig world I am also fascinated by the presumed material trasformation of the paper to wood. This sculpture is carved by hand from a single huge tronk of cypress wood, In the plate of marble there is carved a stylised surface resembling sea and water.

Verena Mayer Tasch uses symbolic fragments which origin in a very personal and intimate experience, evoking emotions and feelins which she transforms into sculptural images using a universal and essential formal language. Her artistic research addresses the theme of the various cycles of life and examines the quest ion of circularity implicit in nature and human history. With the help of minimalist objects such as toys (spinning tops, pinwheels, small boats, butterflies, origami folds), she deals with the th eme of happiness as a state of wholeness belonging to the age of childhood, inviting to reclaim this collective memory for a better living of the present.
