I was born in the United Kingdom, in a wonderful location known as Holt Heath Castle. Throughout my childhood, I was fortunate to grow up in the peaceful countryside, which provided me with a deep appreciation for nature and a sense of freedom. Being surrounded by the beautiful countryside instilled in me a sense of connection with the environment and a desire to live in harmony with nature. My passion for art dates to my earliest memories. I have always been fascinated by colours, and I would spend hours indulging in my love for art. I still vividly remember watching my mother paint on wood with golds and silver inks, which seemed almost magical to me. From a young age, I had a keen interest in geometry, abstract, and art nouveau. These artistic styles inspired me to experiment with different techniques, and I would often spend hours creating intricate designs. As I grew older, my love for art only deepened, and I began to sell my artwork in my mid-twenties. Pursuing a BA degree in textiles was a long-awaited dream for me, especially since I had to leave school at the age of 13 due to some family complications. The decision to leave school meant that I missed out on the art curriculum, which I had always loved. Therefore, being able to return to academia in my late twenties to study textiles was a significant achievement for me. It allowed me to fulfil my dream of furthering my education and provided me with the opportunity to explore my passion for art on a deeper level. Artist Statement My artistic work bears a strong influence of stained glass, a fascination that stemmed from my exposure to its beauty in churches during my formative years. Growing up in a religious village with multiple places of worship, including chapels and a shrine, heightened my appreciation for this art form. The turning point for me was when I first peered through a kaleidoscope and marvelled at the patterns brought to life by coloured glass, sparking a lifelong interest in its use in my work. In 2018, my proudest achievement was the commissioning of the Seed of Life by Canary Wharf in London. Despite repeated rejections from the Arts Council England, the London community saw the potential in my vision and rallied behind me. I aimed to replicate the wonder of the kaleidoscope experience within my creation, and the Seed of Life does so magnificently.
