About The Artwork
I like Sci fi art and I wanted something to challenge my skills to the fullest extent. The main body was a glue up of various woods and then turned. The turnng was then split and carved from the inside. I made a plaster cast of the front to heat-form the acrylic windshield. The engine compartment in the rear has many turned, carved parts. The main body is hard rock maple, the dark wood is Mexican royal ebony, the reddish wood is paduke. The base is quartersawn red oak with poplar inlays for the striping, then painted and a ceruse wax finish and a rubbed lacquer finish on the ship.

I grew up in St. Louis Missouri and still live just a bit south in Hillsboro MO. In my teen years I read all the science fiction I could get my hands on, I love Frank Herbert's Dune and all of Robert Heinlein's work. I'm married with 3 children and live in a wooded area. My art is created in a 1600 square foot shop next to my house. My main profession is cabinet and furniture making and I feel that furniture is just functional sculpture.
