David loves bright colours and their interplay with light. His favourite colour is orange which apparently makes him a social butterfly. Also, people who love orange are considered to be non-judgmental and not ‘intense’. They are generally kind, warm and optimistic. They love freedom and adventure and prefer to socialise with like-minded individuals. All that kind of sums David up! David originally worked in the Wine Trade for many years and only began his career in stained glass back in 2001. It was then that he took an evening class and became so enamoured with the craft that what soon became an all-encompassing hobby eventually turned into a full-time career. As well as running the studio, David is a visiting lecturer on the MSc in Building Conservation at the Weald and Downland Living Museum where he teaches stained glass and leaded light restoration. At his old University, he lectures on Dalle de Verre stained glass to the MA Architectural Design students. On a, less formal basis, David teaches stained glass novices through the courses he runs at his studio, Charleston Farmhouse and The Weald and Downland Living Museum. Not satisfied by all that, he mentors students at the University of Brighton and writes a blog to help newly graduated arts and craft students ‘find their feet’. David works in all types of stained glass, but Dalle de Verre stained glass is his specialism – in fact he is the UK’s only practicing Dalle de Verre craftsman, and is always delighted to chat about it. Whatever else clients may think about David, the one thing that always amazes them is that he is colour-blind!
