This bowl is part of a set of several items that feature some traditional native american designs. The center pattern is a traditional pattern used in rug designs from the South West. I particularly enjoy this kind of work which has some interesting challenges, such as transferring a 2-D pattern from a rug onto the curved surface of a segmented wooden bowl. Some of the woods used for this item are Bolivian Rosewood, Sycamore, Brazilian Cherry, Ivorywood, and Burmese Blackwood. Brazilian Cherry is a very stable, durable, and quite dense hard wood from South America. Care instructions for this item include placing it in a dry, stable environment (indoors), and keeping it from exposure to direct sunlight since some of the woods tend to darken over time.
