Patrick Joan Lambert Beverloo is a versatile artist who manages to make the unconscious tangible with his work
and thus touches people deeply in their souls.
Early in his life, Patrick had a keen eye for the beauty of the world around him. As a young boy, he
spent many hours drawing, clay modelling, and woodcarving. He was always looking for new ways to
express his imagination. Through his childhood experimentation and an innate passion for design,
Patrick Beverloo naturally developed into different art styles. Although his childhood was not easy
for the artist in the making. The separation of his parents was difficult for Patrick and with four
sisters, there was not much money for materials. But with primitive tools like a bread knife, fork, and
spoon, Beverloo laid the foundation for his later craftsmanship. He obtained clay from the meadows
near his great-grandmother's house in the village of Spijk aan de Rijn. With a simple chisel and a
Stanley knife, Patrick created impressive sculptures. Later, his talents were further developed at
graphic school and the academy of fine arts.
His uncle Henry, a well-known fine artist, immediately recognized the creative talent in his curious
nephew. While Uncle Henry taught him drawing, he also taught Patrick to "look" better and taught
him all the tricks of the trade. "It's 95% looking and 5% doing," Uncle Henry always said. With his
uncle, Patrick discussed various art forms and the life of an artist. He was told that he was related to
the famous painter Corneille. Corneille had a sign on his door that said, "Do not disturb!" This is
something that Beverloo recognizes and he added ‘’not even for a moment!’’ to the sign on his own
door. Because when he is in the creative flow, he prefers to lock himself in his studio.
Patrick's father was a task-oriented craftsman who put his son to work in his workshop with wood,
metal, and polyester. Assisting with sawing and drilling, puttying and sanding. It was hard work for
the little boy, with little room for playfulness and freedom. As a result, between the ages of 9 and
14, Patrick gained a lot of all-round material knowledge, which can still be seen in the perfect finish
of his artworks today. His father demanded perfection from his son. In between, he had to clean the
shed, anything to keep him at home and at work.
