Petra Schmidt is an artist known for her reduced color compositions in acrylic, resin, spray paint, varnishes, and the use of innovative materials such as concrete, corrugated sheets, industrial and construction materials. Her works move between systematics and intuition, creating color fields, color compositions, and three-dimensional objects in which color is in direct interaction with the material.
With a background in architecture, Schmidt brings a profound understanding of space, form, and materiality into her artistic practice. After studying architecture and gaining initial experience as an architect, she decided about ten years ago to devote herself entirely to art. During this time, groundbreaking series such as Farbdichte (Color Density) and Sichtweise (Perspective) were created, emphasizing her specific approach to color and material.
Since her first presentation as a talent at the Contemporary Art Ruhr (CAR) in 2022 at the Zollverein in Essen, her works have been exhibited multiple times. An upcoming important milestone will be her participation in the summer of 2025 in the exhibition of the Association for Contemporary Art in the Ruhr Region (VfaKR) in Oberhausen.
Born in Essen, Petra Schmidt now lives and works in Dorsten and Denmark. Her art stands for the fusion of industrial materials and minimalist use of color, which captivates the viewer in a subtle way.
