About The Artwork
A sphere is a geometric object whose points are all equal distance from the centre, but as a symbolic image, the sphere represents three-dimensional spaces such as the earth, the sky, and the universe. Our latest Sphere collection explores the relationship between our perception and curiosity of how wood is formed. The Solid Sphere represents the process of transformation, urging us to consider the previous form of the wood and what it has now become. One of the characteristics of a sphere is that there are no sides, ensuring that each section is given equal importance. In this series, various parts of the tree are given equal weight; from the oldest layer to the active growing layer, the entire life of the tree is put on display. By encompassing each stage, or season, of the tree in each piece, the solid sphere pays tribute to the entire story of a tree.

I work with locally sourced materials to create sculpted objects, functional pieces and designed environments. My work bridges the gap between art and functionality and is not easily classified. While the work itself is constantly evolving, I strive to honour the material’s origins in each piece. I have a deep respect for, and connection to, the Pacific Northwest. My body of work is founded on a reflection of place, place as in the physical environment but also as an experience within that environment. It is my interpretation of the natural world that drives me to create pieces that express the stories that surround us. Every piece I design begins with a story; whether it is something I have experienced or something that is more universal. My hope is to capture people’s attention and ignite an emotional and tangible connection to their surroundings.
