This artwork is a uniquely designed helical spiral shape, hand-welded by Melissa, and is made using solid steel square bar. This the second edition of the small steel spiral (the first edition was sold to a private art collector and was also featured on the main marketing for the Swell Sculpture Festival in 2021 - shown on the exhibition catalogues, bus stops and posters across Australia). This spiral design is part of Melissa's body of work, and she has created largescale spiral sculptures, both in timber reaching 6 metres in length, and a solid steel spiral sculpture spanning 4 metres high/wide. THE MEANING: "This artwork is about how our energy moves through life, spiraling up and down, through highs and lows, flowing infinitely. Our very own DNA is made with the helical spiral, as is many elements in nature. As we exist in nature, flowing with energy, and as we connect with each other, it creates an infinite flow of energy and unity - the very essence of life itself flowing through us." Size: Approx 600mm height x 600 width x 600mm depth, approx 15kgs in weight Note: This is the second version of the small steel spiral series and has very minor improvements/variations to the photoshoot above.

Melissa Carey is an established Contemporary Artist, originally born in Perth WA, and is based in South East Queensland, Australia and often travels for her art commissions and workshops across Australia. Melissa studied Visual Arts after high school and had a number of group exhibitions over the years. In 2013, Melissa stepped up her art practise as a full time professional artist, successfully undertaking art commissions and art projects within the community. Her style is intricate, detailed & contemporary in it's various forms of sculpture & installation art, balancing her feminine elements of rope & textiles with her masculine elements of timber & metal, and encompasses themes of connection. She has a strong focus on managing all elements of her projects (through her love for Project Management) from design concepts, fabrication and installation, and has a hands-on approach to making all her artwork. She is passionate about sharing knowledge and encouraging creativity through teaching, and has taught thousands of people at her art & modern craft workshops in her studio & events Australia-wide. She has found many ways to help improve mental health through combining mindfulness with her art practise. She loves gathering people together in community and creating connection through art. Melissa’s art has been featured on bus stops and the main catalogue for the Swell Sculpture festival, Channel 7 news, Channel 9 news, The Weekend Edition listed as one of the "Top ten must-see sculptures", Sydney Morning Herald, Broadsheet and many more.
