ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work, of 2018, in alabaster, is part of my phase of research that investigates and develops the synthesis between natural form and animal. The form, suggested by the anatomical study of the human body, draws inspiration from this to become something else, doesn't want to be imitation but elaboration of a concept of nature that ranges and connects to multiple known worlds. My purpose is to create a gap between what is known and what is represented, leading the viewer to recognize certain family characteristics, but preventing a real placement. The form, abandoned like a dumped body, wants to represent a moment of rest. The title "swings of a tired mind" is intended to be rejoined at a particular moment, that of the slippage between lucidity and abandonment, which is sometimes present in the lives of all of us. The critic P.Colacitti writes: (...) Antonella is aware that the image is in the mind of the artist and that she can not make any mistakes. He chose the most difficult material. (...) He chooses a style that reduces to the essential minimalism the human figure with a mental geometry of poetic impact, in a harmonious dualism man-nature. Man's backs, hugs, solitary poses and inverted fragments, nature branches and leaves, tree trunks and woods reduced to spontaneous games devoid of any ornament. Antonella assimilates Cubist geometry and futuristic dynamism for an anti-realistic and anticlassical figuration, sublimated by the mind to the limit of abstractism (...) Antonella Gerbi was born in 1976. She graduates in Graphics Design in 1995 and attends a stone sculpture course in Pietrasanta (Lu) with the master Cesare Riva. In 1989 she graduates in Preservation and Restoration of Art Pieces in Venice where she opens a Sculpture Studio with the master Renato Mari. In 2007 she graduates in Sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera of Milan and in 2008 she obtained the specialized graduation in Arti Visive becoming Professor inSculpture (Sculpture Teaching). In 2009 she travels to America and New Zealand for an InternationalTraining session. Her research moves about the concept of impermanence which is around us examined through the daily observation of things in their evolution, growth and disappearance. Since 1997, when she won the Premio Viviani for the Sculpture in Nova Milanese, she is seriously undertaking the artistic career promoting and attending several exhibitions, symposiums and events in Italy and abroad.
