The holy way around Sculpture

Growing up in a church-led state is not easy when you are different. Even if Romania is a secular state, the Orthodox Church still controls most of the decisions taken in the country directly or indirectly. According to the 2011 census, 85.9% of the country's population identify as Orthodox, that's 7.2% of the total number of Orthodox worldwide. The problem arises when religion (in general) comes to influence the decisions taken by the state, in other words, the problem arises when the church moves in parliament and the discourse of love and peace of mind turns into hatred and discrimination. Thus, Romania becomes the country where 43% of LGBTI people in Romania say they have been harassed in the last year, while 15% have been attacked in the last 5 years, here part of the blame lies with the Orthodox Church and the hate speech in the church, supporting the family coalition and the 2016 referendum proposed by them being a well-known example. Another, even more, current but much more indirect is the decision of the Romanian Senate to adopt an amendment to the National Education Law that prohibits public information about gender identity in education. Even if the church directly does not seem to be present, the influences are obvious. And unfortunately, the LGBTI community in Romania is not the only one affected, the church's fight against abortion and sex education are just a few examples. This artwork is dedicated to all people who have been abused, discriminated or disadvantaged by a far too orthodox country and a church far too full of hatred. This artwork aims to alarm the church that it must solve problems inside before solving problems outside the church. Some of them are the countless accusations of paedophilia, abuse, sexual harassment and so on
