Javier Alvarez was born in Germany close to the Swiss border where cultural exchange plays an important role. He began to experiment carving with soap stone at the early age of 14. From 2003-2006 he did an apprenticeship as a stonecarver. From 2006-2011 he worked and lived in southern Spain, the origin of his parents. There he learned to work with marble as a "Marmolista". Working for high end construction sites the visual language of classical Architecture influenced his way of finding shapes. In the marble region of Macael he found the professional environment, to push his craft further. From 2011-2013 he did the professional school for master craftsmanship in Munich, Germany. After that he worked as a freelance sculptor having an artist residence in Carrara, Italy for half a year where he had the opportunity to know the unique marble sculpture industry. From 2015 to 2020 he studied Interior Design in Rosenheim, Germany as he got more interested in the relationship between objects and space. In this time Javier got fascinated about the digital methodologies of finding forms and putting a strong emphasis on 3d printing as anothor tool to realise his ideas. During his studies, he did an internship at Joseph Walsh Studios in Ireland where art, craft and design are encompassed in one place.
