Varykino, the estate on the river Ryvna, in the Urals, as seen in the 1965 classic film, Dr. Zhivago, made an incredible impression on me the first -- and each subsequent time -- I saw it. The passionate, doomed love affair, and the hardships endured as the interior of the house froze, dripping with glittering ice and cold desperation, remained with me through the years. I wanted to recreate that impression of ice overtaking, of frozen shapes and quiet surroundings. Varykino: The Ice Palace, is available as you see it here, but I am also creating more of it and thus envisioning a larger installation. However, we can work together to suit the size you have available, too. It can be hung any which way...in a more vertical configuration, longer and spread out horizontally, in a cluster, broken up into different spaces. You can also contact me to commission a smaller installation. I have posted several views here so you understand the possibilities. A really extraordinary work of art. ******PLEASE NOTE: Speak with the specialists at Saatchiart re: the shipping charge. This work is soft and made from a very resilient material called Fosshape, and the pieces tuck into each other and lay flat. It ships in a sturdy cardboard box or two, NOT a crate, so the shipping price should be significantly less than has been included in the price here. I recently shipped it back and forth between two Southern states for less than $200.00.
