About The Artwork
The monumental sculpture “Vytis” in Kaunas, Lithuania, is devoted to the 100th anniversary of it's restored independence. This is a scale model of that great national symbol, actually, the part of the creative process and the way to commemorate Lithuanian history. Not a souvenir, but a sort of bozzetto, a sketch fixing the author's way of thinking, which provided him to the desired effect. Vytis expresses that eternal will, which leads to freedom.

Since 1999 I have been working in the field of monumental sculpture. I am attracted by the appearance and opportunities of durable materials. They correlate with my inner intention to create artwork which can stand time and mindset changes. Working on the project I concentrate on two principal aspects: the way sculpture contacts with the viewer, especially the most attentive and sensible - with the child, and the way it interacts with the surrounding space. Looking for new approaches to the monumental sculpture I have returned to the experiments with the easel sculpture. That is how I reopen vastness of expressive metaphors and sincerity of personal artistic language.
