human cubes 750 Sculpture

"human cubes 750" consists of over 750 wooden cubes. For this work of art, the artist first made a model out of clay in order to transfer the complicated movement of the sculpture into the wood. The cubes were all individually sawn from solid wood and glued together in a complex process. The combination of lime- and larch wood results in a chessboard-like pattern on the surface. Similar to the "human flow" series, the artist tries to approximate the human form by combining simple, geometric shapes and then processing the wood. The surface of the sculpture is finely sanded and untreated. All sculptures by Manfred Hellweger are unique.
