About The Artwork

The sculpture "samsara #5" was created from an old olive tree from Riva del Garda in Italy. Olive wood has a very lively grain and is exceptionally hard and heavy. In the sculpture series "samsara" Manfred deals with the perpetual cycle of being, the cycle of becoming and passing away and the cycle of rebirth in Indian religions. The artist creates something new from old, partially dead tree trunks and found objects. The surface of the sculpture is finely sanded and oiled in the upper area. The lower, lighter area was brushed and painted white with acrylic paint. The base is made of Brazilian granite called "Black Cosmic". Total weight: 25 kg All sculptures by Manfred Hellweger are unique.
